"We love Puglia....BUT, the government or someone needs to seriously tackle the issue of rubbish and garbage that litters the countryside. How seriously is the environment really considered? Monopoli is a showpiece clean and rubbish free town but one kilometre outside every town in Puglia, the amount of rubbish lying everywhere is very off putting. Many of our friends will not visit because of this. I know its an 'Italian' thing as its evident all over the country BUT A CAMPAIGN NEEDS TO BE LAUNCHED TO EDUCATE AND IF NECESSARY PUNISH THOSE THAT LITTER. As far as tourism is concerned, this is your # 1 issue. You have everything else...the sea, the beaches (many also covered in rubbish), lovely people, great food and wine, exqusite old towns and villages, history,....all ultimately spoiled by the mess across the landscape left by locals who clearly dont appreciate what they have."
